Strengthening Work Picture and Upcoming Events

As we roll into the mid-summer months, our work picture has remained steady. As some jobs are winding down, we look forward to some jobs ramping up.

We expect to see some calls for work at the Marathon refinery. The Paramount project that was shut down months ago should be calling out as they ramp up again, since they’ve settled the issues with the environmental organizations. These projects will require an RSO card, so if you have not obtained one, make sure you get in a class at OSCA in the city of Carson. You may also be required to have a TWIC card, so make sure you apply for that at your earliest convenience. Instrumentation techs are always in demand at these industrial sites.

We have some upcoming events at Local 11. Saturday August 3rd from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. our annual picnic will be held at the Hollywood Sports Complex in the city of Bellflower. It will be hot, so make sure you dress accordingly. There will be games for children, bingo held in a hall so you can get out of the sun and paintball will also be offered at a discount rate for our members during the picnic. And don’t forget to stop by and visit the health fair put on by our Health & Pension Trust.

Toward the end of August, RENEW will hold their annual Luau at our South Bay office in Torrance. And on Monday, Sept. 2 will be the annual Labor Day Parade in Wilmington. I hope to see members at these events.

And remember, whether you are at work or enjoying your weekend, make sure you keep your water intake up. Look out for the signs of heat distress within yourself but also for the people around you.

In Solidarity,

Robert Corona
Business Manager/Financial Secretary
