Political Director’s Report – November 2020

More states have certified their election and declared Joe Biden the 46th President of the United States. Yes, it’s clear that Joe Biden won without fraud and with grace. Unfortunately, Donald Trump doesn’t know how to lose and move on, and he will do everything he can to make a scene. Too bad Trump! We don’t have time for your tantrums. We need to move on and focus on how to beat COVID and save our economy. As President-elect Biden announces members of his new administration, there will be a few surprises. Expect L.A. Mayor Eric Garcetti to be offered a position. If he accepts, we will then see shockwaves as politicians line up to run for Mayor.

I want to highlight some good news. Sasha Perez, daughter of Local 11 brother Eddie Perez, was elected to the Alhambra City Council. Congratulations to the Perez Family!

This past weekend, IBEW Local 11, along with the L.A. County Federation of Labor, AFL-CIO, and the L.A. Food Bank co-hosted a food distribution event at the ETI. It was humbling to know that the food distribution started at 10 am, but people started lining up at 6:30 am to receive a food package.

As I was driving into the ETI that morning and saw the long line of cars, I felt a strong sense of gratitude toward the labor movement and toward IBEW. Thanksgiving 2020 will be like no other. I will be staying at home with my wife and two daughters. But just like last year, my family and I will be grateful for our blessings.

I wish you a happy and healthy Thanksgiving.

Antonio Sanchez
Political Director
IBEW Local 11
