Sound & Communications Report – October 2025

The IBEW Unit 9 Team and I attended the BICSI (Building Industry Consulting Service International) conference in September. It was great to see how the low-voltage technology is rapidly evolving and creating new opportunities for electricians in data, security, and smart systems. As buildings become smarter, demand is rising for professionals skilled in structured cabling, fiber optics, access control, and integrated AV systems. Electricians are now working alongside IT teams to install and maintain networks and automation systems. Training in IP-based systems, PoE (Power over Ethernet), and wireless technologies is becoming essential. With the growth of EV infrastructure and energy-efficient buildings, low-voltage specialists are at the forefront of innovation. Staying current through certifications and hands-on training ensures union members remain competitive and ready for the future.
