President’s Message — February 2021

Brothers and sisters,

One of the duties the President undertakes (per the by-laws and Constitution) is the local union election process. Per the Local 11 By-Laws, the first step is handling the nominations of officers at the April General meeting. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the “I.O.” has given us guidelines to follow to provide for nominations through mail, in the event that our April General Meeting can’t take place.

All members of Local (in good standing) will receive a nominations ballot. Instructions will be included on the nominations ballot and that they are to be returned to the election judge (and tellers) who will be handling the incoming nominations. Our hope is that the COVID-19 vaccination process will have reached a “targeted” level, and that the local county health officials will give permission to hold large group gatherings by our April General meeting date.

Regardless which way nominations take place, the rest of the election process will take place as usual. The election date when all ballots for local union office will take place is Saturday, June 5, 2021. My hope is that you will all take your local union elections seriously and review all the candidates who are running for office. This process is very important, and nothing less than your best effort should be exercised to express the will of the membership and the direction it wants to take for the next three years.

As always, if you have any questions, just give one of our agents a call or call the local union office. Thank you for the privilege to serve you all!

In Solidarity,
Gaylord “Rusty” Roten
