Special Called Meeting July 27

Sisters and Brothers,

On Saturday, July 27, 2019 at 10:00 am, a special called meeting will occur at Westin Bonaventure Hotel to update you on continued negotiations with NECA to resolve proposed changes to the Inside Wireman’s Agreement. As you know, at our last Special Called Meeting on Saturday June 29, 2019, those in attendance voted overwhelmingly to reject the contract NECA proposed and to authorize the union to call for a strike. Since then, IBEW 11 has received strike sanction approval from the IBEW International President; Los Angeles/Orange Counties Building and Construction Trades Council; Los Angeles County Federation of Labor AFL-CIO; and International Brotherhood of Teamsters Joint Council 42. Your negotiating team met on Tuesday, July 16th and Wednesday, July 17th and tried through mediation to reach an agreement to present to the membership. The mediators were not able to get the parties to agree, so a last meeting is scheduled for Friday, July 26, 2019 If we do not receive a proposal that we can recommend for ratification, then, pursuant to Inside Wireman’s Agreement, Article I, Section 1.02 (d), the local union will serve the Los Angeles County Chapter National Electrical Contractors Association with a ten (10) day notice to terminate the Agreement. Then after the 10-day period concludes, we will strike. We will provide the exact date and time that the strike will begin at the July 27 meeting.

Until the date and time called by IBEW 11 to strike, continue going to work, giving the contractor 100 percent of your efforts to show them the benefit of having a well-trained and skilled UNION worker. Before the strike begins, plan to return any company owned equipment or supplies. For example, if you drive a company truck, have a company gas card or company iPad or phone, you should return them before we walk out. Remember, if you are on a job covered under a Project Labor Agreement, Community Workforce Agreement, or any other agreement which guarantees no strike or walkout, you must continue to go to work. You will be notified how you can serve picket duty or how you can fulfill your obligation as required in the Local Union By-Laws. You will find in this letter a list of your service representatives with their contact information should you have any questions.

In closing, please know that all organized labor is behind you. IBEW Locals around the country and surrounding locals have called offering support to ensure you get the contract you deserve. You have put so much time and effort to become and continue to be a skilled and trained electrician you deserve to be compensated fairly. From attending rallies, city council meetings or endorsing politicians who support our industry, you have shown your commitment to both the IBEW and the contractors who employ you. See you at the Special Called Meeting and don’t forget to bring your current, official, paper JULY 2019 YELLOW DUES RECEIPT!
